5 Classy Color Combinations for Your Dress

A while back I said any two colors can go together. I stand by that statement, but there are some pairings I love more than others. Here are some combos that I think always kill on a dress and make you look like the class of the place.

1. Red & Gold

Red has always caught my eye, so this is a personal favorite. This combo works in many different variations. Grab a red cotton print with metallic gold detailing or wear a solid red dress with gold jewelry. It feels bold and daring.

2. Emerald Green & Black

Emerald green screams vintage luxury to me. I’m imagining a green taffeta and black velvet dress, but this combo would look great in satins, quilters cotton, corduroy and more. The fabric possibilities just keep on going and going...

3. Navy & Bronze

Also a color combo that feels a little vintage, but more sophisticated and subdued. I think these colors work best on fabrics with a little bit of a shine, like satins, brocade, taffeta, or organza.

Your wardrobe doesn’t have to be restrictive or boring to be filled with classics. These fabric combos all have richness and depth in their palette, keeping them from becoming cheap and dated, even as trends change. If one of these combos calls to you, try adding it to your closet with your next clothing purchase. You might be surprised by how long that piece stays with you.

4. Silver & Black

These colors feel serious and sophisticated together. Many dresses in this color combo create the pattern using beading or other 3D elements. This makes the design incredibly lush, but you could also do this color combo elegantly without the 3D pieces. A black leather or velvet with a silver satin would be dynamite.

5. Camel & Cream

The most casual of the combo, it feels understated and refined. I love these colors in soft fabrics like quilters cotton, challis, corduroy and flannel. These colors in a casual summer or maxi dress would be a closet go-to forever.
