A Rant on Pockets for Women

I would guess pockets are on my mind at least 400% more of the time than the average person. I talk about them. I rage, complain, obsess over them. My family is tired of hearing about them. My dog has heard some speeches about them.
But like anything we obsess over, it’s deeper than pockets. Deeper than even those nice big pockets men get in their pants (okay, I’m pretty proud of that pun).
It’s about equality, and just straight up quality, in clothing for women. All the women I know do a lot in their lives. They are busy people that give a lot to their families, jobs, and friends. Often, they’re thinking about somebody else’s needs and managing an infinite todo list.
Do these sound like people that don’t need pockets? Or how about itty bitty pockets that don’t actually hold anything?
No! (can you feel my rage now too?)
To me, they sound like people that absolutely need functional pockets, but are so used to not having pockets that they don’t expect to find them in their clothing. Layering on the fact that women are busy means they likely don’t even have time to go on the treasure hunt that is required to find something higher quality.
This is really what I’m thinking about when I rant about pockets. I think women deserve so much more than standard clothing tends to offer them. Better functionality is at the start of all my new designs. It’s a must in my mind. It’s why my latest bag has sooo many pockets. It’s why every dress I make has pockets. And it’s where my latest product idea came from: sew on your own pocket kits.
I wanted to give an accessible, low cost way for women to get the pockets they deserve in their clothing. You’ll be able to buy a pocket kit with everything you need to sew 2 pockets onto your dress, bag, etc. It’s meant to be a fun giftable or item to buy for yourself, but also ultimately to give women more functional clothing.
