How to Find Clothes You Love: 4 Essential Questions to Ask Yourself

Finding or designing clothes that truly bring you joy is an art form. Whether you’re browsing a boutique or having a custom piece made, there are four essential questions you can ask yourself to make sure you're making the right choice. These questions help determine if a garment is something you’ll love for years to come—or if it’s something that might just end up gathering dust in the back of my closet.

1. Do You Love the Material?
First things first: the fabric. Do you love the print, the color, the texture? The material of a garment can make or break how you feel about it. Does the fabric itself get you excited? Whether it’s a bold, eye-catching print or a soft, neutral tone, make sure the material speaks to you on a personal level.

2. Do You Love How It Feels?
Next, consider how the garment feels on your skin. Is it something you’d want to wear all day? Comfort is key. Even the most beautiful dress won’t see the light of day if it’s scratchy, stiff, or uncomfortable. Choose fabrics that make you feel good, inside and out.

3. Does It Have Details That Excite You?
Little details can make a big difference. Does the garment have features that excite you? Maybe it has pockets (and who doesn’t love a dress with pockets?), or perhaps it’s adorned with delicate buttons or a pretty bow. These details should bring you joy and align with your personal style.

4. Does It Highlight What You Love About Your Body?
Finally, think about what you love about your body and how the garment highlights those features. If you’re proud of your shoulders, maybe an off-the-shoulder design is perfect. Love your legs? A short hemline or side slits could be just what you’re looking for. The key is to find or design clothes that celebrate your favorite features, making you feel confident and beautiful.

These four questions are my go-to thoughts whenever I’m figuring out how I feel about a dress design or shopping for a new piece. By focusing on what truly matters to you, you’ll be well on your way to curating a wardrobe full of pieces you absolutely love.
