When ordering a custom dress you want to make sure you're going to end up with that perfect fit. Accurate measurements are key to achieve this. These are our top tips to get the most precise results:
Use a Flexible Measuring Tape
A flexible measuring tape, ideally 60 inches long, is a must. Avoid using a yardstick or string, as these won’t provide the necessary accuracy for detailed body measurements.Measure to 1/8 of an Inch
Precision matters! Always measure to the nearest 1/8 of an inch. Small differences can have a big impact on the final fit, especially for areas that are form-fitting.Wear the Right Garments
Wear the same undergarments, including bra and shapewear, that you’ll wear under your dress. For a floor-length dress, wear shoes of the same height. Layer with soft, pliable clothing like a loose T-shirt and leggings. Avoid bulky clothing (like jeans) or clothes that reshape your body (like a tight tank top with a built in bra).Follow Measurement Instructions
There are few hard standards when comes to taking measurements, so different designer will ask for measurements differently. Be sure to follow specific instructions carefully to avoid discrepancies that could lead to a poor fit.Remember: Measurements Are Just Numbers
Your body is perfect just the way it is! Measurements are simply data needed to create your beautifully tailored dress. Your designer should never make you feel self conscious. Their goal should be to make you feel great in your custom piece.
Accurate measurements will get you a step closer to that perfect fitting dress and cut down on the alterations needed once your dress is complete. Happy measuring!
